This week is a very exciting one at the Handprint Games office, as we finally get to announce our first project. The past couple of weeks have been filled with lots of research, brainstorming sessions, creativity, and of course hard work, and we are very excited to finally bring you the first concepts of the game and tell you a bit about Coach Simon: the no-nonsense boxing coach who will be transforming you into a world champion in Punch Perfect.
Punch Perfect is a memory and hand-eye coordination mobile game in which you will be training with boxing coach Simon. You have to throw different combinations of punches at the pads on his hands by for example tapping on them to throw a jab or swiping to throw a hook.
Coach Simon will teach you the combination once, but then you will have to do it correctly by yourself (before his patience runs out!). While this might sound easy enough, combinations will become increasingly difficult every single time. If you are successful at completing all 5 combos in each level, coach Simon will let you move up a weight class, allowing you to train your way up from a flyweight into a heavyweight over various levels.
We have been working very hard over the past couple weeks trying to define the specific art style and aesthetic we wanted to follow for Punch Perfect. In order to do this, we looked at different types of boxing gym styles, boxing coach characters, as well as different visual styles used to market and promote boxing over the past decades. While we will tell you a bit more about this visual exploration process in the next blog posts, we still wanted to share our first concept art with you and let you know that any feedback is more than welcome!
We hope that you are just as excited as we are to step into the gym and see if you have what it takes to become the next boxing champion. Be sure to keep following us to receive updates surrounding the game’s progress and release and to learn more about the development process behind Punch Perfect, which we will talk about in more detail in the coming blog posts.
Until next time!
