I can’t believe that it’s December and we are heading towards the end of 2018 already. It has been an amazing year for myself and of course for Handprint Games, as this has been the year in which it all started! I have high hopes, however, that 2019 will be even better as we’ve got so many cool ideas and plans for the near future, with hopefully loads more games coming your way. Having promised myself that 2019 will be the year in which I can finally buy my own PS4, I am so excited to see what other games will be released in this next year. I have written a little bit about some of the upcoming games that I am most excited about, so let’s begin!
Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming RPG from CD Projekt Red, well-known for developing The Witcher series. While this is a series that has so many elements that should make me love it – and pretty much everyone around me does seem to love it – I have never really enjoyed any of The Witcher games at all (sorry!). I have been waiting for a good Cyberpunk game for ages though, as video games and the cyberpunk genre with its futuristic settings and aesthetic seem to be a really good match. The last game I remember playing that was set in a similar setting was 2013’s Remember Me, which looked really cool but always managed to get me so worked up that no one could even be in the same room as me while I was playing it. Cyberpunk 2077, however, looks very promising and seems to be the game that I have been waiting for. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet and the developers have not been sharing much news since last summer’s E3, a 2019 release date still seems possible (fingers crossed!).
Kingdom Hearts III
I again have to admit that I have never been the biggest fan of the Kingdom Hearts games, which is again strange as I absolutely love everything to do with Disney. Despite not being a big fan though, I will definitely be playing Kingdom Hearts III just for the Toy Story world alone. Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue was my absolute favourite game when I was younger and I can’t wait to be jumping about Andy’s room again. Many of the other worlds in the game are from some of my favourite Disney movies, including the Kingdom of Corona from Tangled, Monstropolis, and the Kingdom of Arendelle, with various voice actors from the movies returning to lend their voices again. Gary was able to play a bit of Kingdom Hearts III at EGX in October, of which I am very jealous.
My mom got me into the Tropico games when I was younger and I have really good memories of playing them on warm summer nights. While I probably won’t be having many of those now that I have moved to Glasgow, I am still looking forward to the newest installment. There’s just something really fun about getting to play a rich dictator and being as corrupt as you want to be, although you do sometimes feel bad when pretty much half of the population is living in slums while you’re sitting in your shiny palace. The latest entry in the strategy series now apparently also lets you steal famous landmarks like Stonehenge and the Statue of Liberty – which seems a bit random and odd – and customise El Presidente’s palace to make it look even more fancy and luxurious!
These are just a couple of the upcoming games that I am looking forward to playing, with other titles including Metro: Exodus and The Last of Us 2 – which will hopefully be released in 2019. There are also lots of amazing indie titles to look forward to, so we will be posting about those in the next couple of weeks as well. Let us know what games you are looking forward to or what game(s) you would possibly like to see from us in 2019!
Until next time,
